Springbok
The springbok is a medium-sized antelope found in southern and southwestern Africa. The sole member of the genus Antidorcas, the springbok is classified as a member of the family Bovidae. It was first described by German zoologist Eberhard August Wilhelm von Zimmermann in 1780. A slender, long-legged antelope, the springbok reaches 71–86 cm (28–34 in) at the shoulder and weighs between 27 and 42 kg (60 and 93 lb). Both sexes have a light brown coat with a white belly, buttocks, and a narrow stripe along the back. The tail is black and white, and it ends in a black tuft. There is a white patch on the face, and the eyes are surrounded by white rings. The horns, present only on males, grow to about 20 cm (8 in) and are straight and slightly curved backwards.
